PassportCard is an international health insurance for expats, emigrants, digital nomads and others living abroad long term. Its distinguishing feature is a dedicated payment card that allows medical services to be paid for directly on site, so policyholders generally do not have to pay upfront and have hardly any paperwork. In addition, there is a free choice of doctors and hospitals, multilingual 24/7 customer service and various plans offering different levels of outpatient, inpatient and dental cover.

Overview
Challenge
PassportCard operates in a clearly defined niche. International health insurance only applies to stays of more than three months and is therefore aimed at expats, long-term travellers and companies with internationally active employees. These target groups are fragmented, hard to reach through the media and operate outside classic insurance communications. At the same time, PassportCard was to become specifically visible in a B2B context among HR managers who evaluate and select insurance for international assignments.
In addition, the low appeal of insurance as a topic made communication more difficult. International health insurance is complex, needs explaining and, for many, only becomes relevant once a concrete need arises. The central challenge was to convey a niche product in an understandable and relevant way without lapsing into product-heavy communication, while building visibility in an environment increasingly shaped by generative search systems.
Solution
To meet this challenge, a continuous PR and content strategy was implemented that combined classic media relations with digital visibility. Press releases and guest articles were published twice a month and placed specifically in insurance and HR trade media as well as in selected lifestyle and travel media. The topics were consistently guided by the questions of the target groups rather than by the product itself.
In parallel, the magazine on the PassportCard website was strategically expanded. Monthly content pieces were prepared in a structured, understandable and thematically in-depth way, so that they are both attractive to journalists and suitable for Generative Engine Optimisation. Surveys were also used regularly to create data-based content for media relations. Expert voices from areas such as insurance and tax helped to put complex matters into context and add depth.
Impact
Through regular publications in relevant B2B and B2C media, PassportCard established itself as a visible and reliable voice on the topic of international health insurance. The brand noticeably gained awareness and, particularly in the HR sphere, came to be seen as a competent point of contact for international assignments. At the same time, the continuous build-up of content increased visibility in generative search environments and lastingly strengthened the brand’s digital presence.
